CFCFFL WORK WITH THE POOR GATHERING
OCT. 25, 2008
The kids in the picture say it all. This is what the event was all about. The Alay Salamat, a CFC FFL Work With the Poor Gathering, was to thank the Lord for His goodness and love for the poor.
About 400 beneficiary families from the Restoration and Mission Villages trooped to the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) gym in Quezon City to give thanks, be inspired and have fun. The event started with a worship, then the participants heard talks about love of God and how to respond to His love. While the parents were listening to the talks, the kids were treated to an entertainment by a clown provided by the Education ministry. In the Holy Mass that followed, the priest in his homily, reminded those present that doing good to those in need should translate to spiritual transformation of both the giver and the receiver. Ang paggawa ng
kabutihan ay dahat humantong (o nagmula) sa sariling kabutihan.
After lunch, the participants were treated to an ukay-ukay (rummage) sale. This was one of th
e highlights of the event and a big hit with our brothers and sisters. Everyone bought useful items – including CFCFFL members from the districts who are not beneficiaries. Also spotted rummaging and making their own purchases were the security guards of DAR. The districts of Bulacan, Novaliches, Antipolo, Paranaque, and Cubao participated in the sale. A popular stop was the Cubao district store where goods flown in by CFCFFL members from Seattle, Washington were sold. With solicited items from members and friends in their respective areas, the districts retained 80% of their sale for their own WWP programs while 20% went to defray some of the cost of the event.
Then, the CFC Kids for Family and Life presented a stage play, “The Quest for the Real Treasure, Jesus”. Everyone, adults and children alike, were enthralled by the play leaving each one without doubt as Who the real treasure is. A Kids praisefest then followed. The event was concluded with an empowerment prayer by Bro. Nonong Contreras, CFCFFL Head for the Social Ministries.
The participants went home happy and thankful to the Lord for His goodness.
Prayer:
Lord, we strived to glorify you and please you in this event. With our limited resources, we put together an event – for simple people by simple people – with the simple aim of giving you glory and thanking you for your love for all of us.
Thank you, Lord, for giving us brothers and sisters who heed your call to love and care for the underprivileged and making each one the bearer of your love. Thank you, Lord, for giving us the underprivileged who have opened their hearts to receive your love. May you transform all of us to be like Jesus.
Amen.
